Staff Biographies


Justin Miller, ACF

A lifelong resident of the Upper Peninsula, Justin Miller founded Green Timber Consulting Foresters (GTCF) in 2001 in pursuit of his professional goal of serving private forestland owners. Since its inception, GTCF has served hundreds of landowners ranging from private individuals with less than 20 acres up to industrial landowners and investment organizations with nationwide land holdings. Justin offers a wealth of experience and knowledge in inventory design and implementation, timber harvest preparation and administration, and timber marketing. In addition to day-to-day operation of the business and project planning, Justin is involved in client relations, data analysis, timber harvest administration, inventory audits, and timber sale accounting. When he isn’t working, Justin can be found hunting, windsurfing, Telemark skiing, playing hockey or spending time with his family.

Rexx A. Janowiak, ACF
Senior Forester
Tree Farm Group Manager

A native of Free Soil, Michigan, Rexx Janowiak joined GTCF in 2003 after gaining experience working in the forest industry and for state agencies in Michigan and Wisconsin. Rexx's duties include project proposals, client relations, timber harvest planning, layout and administration, forest management plans, and forest inventory work. Rexx is also the group manager of the Green Timber Tree Farm Group. In his free time, Rexx is an avid fisherman and hunter; he also plays baseball in the Copper Country Twilight League and is a member of the Otter Lake Sportsman's Club, Ottawa Sportsman's Club, Ducks Unlimited and the Ruffed Grouse Society. He enjoys spending time with his wife and two dogs

Jerrod T. Moilanen, ACF
Geographic Information Systems Specialist

Jerrod Moilanen grew up in nearby Hancock, Michigan and attended Northern Michigan University in Marquette, Michigan, earning a degree in Ecology. Jerrod started his forestry career in 2003 with the U.S. Forest Service where he worked on a Forest Inventory and Analysis (FIA) Crew based in Alberta, Michigan. Jerrod joined GTCF in 2008; in 2010 he assumed responsibility for our Geographic Information Systems (GIS) services including map design and layout, and inventory plot layout. In addition to his GIS duties, Jerrod is responsible for timber harvest preparation and administration and forest inventory. He enjoys spending time with his family, mountain biking and playing hockey.

Shane C. Kleiman
Interdepartmental Specialist

Shane graduated from Michigan Technological University in April 2017 with professional Master’s degrees in Forestry and Geographical Information Systems (GIS). Previous educational experience includes Bachelor of Science degrees in Applied Ecology, and Mathematics – Statistics, also from Michigan Tech. During the two spring semesters of Shane’s graduate school career he served as the lab instructor for FW3200: Biometrics; an applied statistics course related to forestry and ecology practices. During the summer of 2016, Shane worked for the Michigan Tech Research Institute as a GIS / remote sensing technician. In this position, Shane integrated the disciplines of GIS, remote sensing, and statistics to conduct research on environmental problems. For the summers of 2014 and 2015, Shane worked as a field forester for the Michigan Department of Natural Resources, gaining experience in different timber marking and inventory techniques. He is excited to join Green Timber to apply and build on his education and work experience to help landowners better manage their resources. In his free time, Shane enjoys outdoor adventures including hiking, snowshoeing, mountain biking, kayaking, and cooking meals in the woods.

Brian J. Nordstrom

Brian joined the staff of Green Timber Consulting Foresters in 2015. Brian is a native of Atlantic Mine, Michigan and is a 2015 graduate of Michigan Technological University. Since starting his career at Green Timber, Brian has become proficient in timber marking and timber harvest layout as well as forest inventory. Brian has also gained experience in timber harvest administration and forest management plan writing. In his free time Brian enjoys hunting, golfing, fishing and spending time with his family and friends.

Karl Ploeckelman

Karl joined the staff of Green Timber Consulting Foresters in April of 2018. Karl started his career by learning forest inventory techniques and timber marking skills during an internship with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources. After graduating from University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point with a Bachelor of Science in Forest Management in 2016, Karl furthered his inventory skills working with Menominee Tribal Enterprises on their Continuous Forest Inventory (CFI). Continuing to pursue his passion for trees, Karl also worked as an arborist in Stevens Point, WI, where he learned to professionally climb and prune trees. Outside of work, Karl enjoys playing frisbee sports, camping, downhill skiing, helping his parents on their dairy farm in Wisconsin, and spending time with family and friends.

Justin Martincheck

Justin joined Green Timber in September, 2018 after graduating from Michigan Technological University with a Master of Forestry Degree. As a student, Justin gained forestry experience through an internship with Weyerhaeuser. At Weyerhaeuser, Justin’s primary duties consisted of establishing harvest boundaries and identifying and delineating riparian zones. Justin also performed regeneration surveys and participated in timber harvest administration, inspection, and site preparation. Prior to entering the forestry field, Justin served in the US Air Force as a Firefighter. He was stationed at Minot Air Force Base in North Dakota, and Al Dhafra Air Force Base in the United Arab Emirates. Justin’s interest in the outdoors began when he was a child and would spend time in the woods of the Northern Lower Peninsula hunting with his dad and grandpa. In his free time, he enjoys hunting, fishing, working with his tractor, cheering for Michigan athletics, and spending time with his family and friends.

Michelle M. Miller

Michelle has been a part of the staff of Green Timber Consulting Foresters since 2004. Prior to 2013, Michelle's role primarily consisted of payroll reporting and proofreading management plans and reports. Since 2013, Michelle's responsibilities have grown to include maintenance of our client database, editing our Tree Farm Group Newsletter, printing and binding of plans and reports and preparing timber sale prospectuses. Michelle is currently pursuing her Master's Degree in Applied Science in Education at Michigan Technological University. As part of her coursework, Michelle will be conducting field trips for local school groups to expose children to careers in natural resources. In her free time, Michelle enjoys gardening, running and spending time with her family.
