Forest Stewardship Plans Featured in Mining Journal

The "Marquette Mining Journal" interviewed Justin Miller, ACF and Rexx Janowiak, ACF, about Green Timber's participation in the Forest Stewardship Program and recent timber harvests that we have planned and supervised.

Green Timber Employees Teach Local Students About Forestry

In September, 2016, Green Timber foresters Justin Miller, Justin Kirby and Dylan Malone assisted Michelle Miller in hosting a field day which educated more than 200 Marquette area students about forestry careers and what foresters do on a day-to-day basis. We were assisted by representatives from the Michigan DNR, Michigan Technological University, Northern Michigan University and Steigerwaldt Land Services. Several local media outlets covered the event including WLUC-TV6, ABC10 & CW5 UP and WJMN Local 3.


Green Timber Lands Wildlife Habitat Grant

In October, 2016, the Michigan DNR announced the projects that will be funded through the annual Wildlife Habitat Grant Program. Green Timber has partnered with the Dead River Campers, Inc. of Marquette County to plan and implement a project that will improve the availability of food for a range of wildlife species in the vicinity of the Dead River Basin. Most of the project will take place on land open to hunting through the Commercial Forest Act. You can read more about the grant here.


Green Timber Hosts Successful Tree Farm Day

On May 20th, approximately 20 landowners met at the Chassell School to learn about considerations in building and maintaining forest trails to accommodate a wide range of uses. You can learn more about this topic by viewing this slide show.

Ontonagon County

Green Timber was awarded the management contract for forested lands owned by Ontonagon County, Michigan. Green Timber completed a comprehensive forest management plan for Ontonagon County in the Spring of 2014 that focuses on the forest management objectives of the county and its residents. The primary goals for the sustainable management of this property include improving recreation opportunities, conservation of soil and water resources, maintaining and enhancing wildlife habitat, and sustainable timber harvesting.

Michigan ACF Chapter of the Year

Green Timber Consulting Foresters has been active in the Association of Consulting Foresters (ACF) for several years. The Michigan Chapter of the Association of Consulting Foresters was awarded the Chapter of the Year designation for 2014. The important accomplishments for the Michigan ACF chapter in 2014 include recruiting new young foresters to the organization and helping to prevent the Michigan Registered Forester designation from being eliminated by the state legislature.

Justin Miller - ACF Regional Director

Justin Miller, president of Green Timber Consulting Foresters, was chosen as the Association of Consulting Foresters (ACF) Northern Regional Director and serves on the ACF Executive Committee. The Northern Regional Director represents all states within the Midwest and Northeastern United States. Justin Miller has also served as the Michigan ACF Chapter president and his current Regional Director Position runs through July of 2017.

Rexx Janowiak - Michigan ACF Vice President

Rexx Janowiak celebrated his 10 year anniversary with Green Timber Consulting Foresters in 2014 and was also elected vice president of the Michigan ACF chapter. His term runs through 2015 and will transition into the president position for the 2016-2017 term.

Michigan ACF Honored as Chapter of the Year
Green Timber Consulting Foresters has been an active member of the Michigan Chapter Association of Consulting Foresters (MACF) for several years. Tree Farmers in the News
An article appeared in the local newspapers about two Green Timber Tree Farm Group members. One earned 2010 Upper Peninsula Tree Farmer of the Year, while the other received the 2010 Michigan Tree Farmer of the Year.

Marquette Conservation District Honors Green Timber
Green Timber Consulting Foresters, Inc. received the 2007 Forestry Award from the Marquette Conservation District. Justin Miller, Jim Pelkola, Rexx Janowiak and Michelle Miller attended the Annual Marquette Conservation District Meeting to accept the award.

Miller Recognized as 2007 MTU SFRES Outstanding Young Alumnus
Justin Miller was recognized as the 2007 Outstanding Young Alumnus at the School of Forest Resources and Environmental Science alumni luncheon held in conjunction with the MTU Alumni Reunion.

Excavation Uncovers Buried Forest
An ancient buried forest was discovered on a client's property while he was having a pond developed. The buried trees are being studied at Michigan Technological University to determine the age and species of the trees. An article about this appeared in the TechAlum newsletter

Green Timber Helps Conservancy Salvage Damaged Timber
